Dear Ed, Much as Amy Thompson maybe right about animals in captivity being saved from extinction,the Metro itself reported in Feb11,2008 about the way that the Chinese make Lions ride horses as a "freak show".If the animals are in captivity and subject to this terror,then maybe they are better left where they are. The fact is,it is mankind's blindness to his impact on the environment,that causes animals to be in zoos. Zoos are a symptom,not a solution. It is about time we started understanding we need animals in the wild in order to survive ourselves. DL Borrell
