In spite of absolutely terrible rain and windy weather today,
we had our biggest turn out yet for an MTVCA event. The reception room of
the house was full and we were so glad to have Nick Martin of the British
Trust Conservation Volunteers (BTCV)
as our guest speaker giving an illustrated talk on
"Birds of the Medlock & Tame
Valleys". Many of the beautiful photographs shown were taken with his
own camera. Following the power point presentation, we listened to the sounds
of the various birds. Then he tested us on what we heard. We didn't do too
badly but we were certainly helped along by a few dedicated ornithologists
who attended. We saw finches, crows, warblers, ducks, sparrows, blackbirds,
starlings, wrens, robins, kingfishers
such diversity amongst our feathered
friends.
It was good to see new faces there (as well as old of course!) and there
was a happy atmosphere throughout the meeting. So much information and admiration
at the wide variety of birds we have present in both our valleys for us to
observe and appreciate.
We ended the afternoon with tea, coffee and biscuits and mingling around
getting to know each other. Tickets were on sale for the
hamper.
Such a good event and many thanks to Nick Martin for his time, preparation
and travel to make it such a success for us.
