Herb Tablet Project

As part of the revamping of the garden area, the 'herb tablet' is a project provisionally to make use of the 'cartwheel' as a focal point and possibly memorial. The stages to completion are outlined below along with a diagram. The committee have decided to site the tablet in the lower area of the garden close to the greenhouse. The earlier site at the side of the house has been rejected due to the overhanging trees which are liable to minimise required light.

• Move two shrubs as marked on sketch.
• Dig and level main herb and wildflower beds,apply organic nutrients to area to be planted.
• Mark out with string siting of herb tablet and other beds.
• Prepare foundation to rest herb tablet on allowing clearance of tablet with topsoil.
• Prepare surfaces for circular path and adjacent area for bench.
• Paint wooden tablet frame with preservative and sealer,and line segments with plastic border edge strip using galvanised nails.
• Present wooden tablet to supports,level and bed in.
• Install wooden log rolls to outer faces of circular shingle and sitting area paths.
• Tamp down surrounding paths,and lay top shingle coating.
• Surround wildflower bed with natural stone pebbles,most already on site.
• Project now ready for planting up,as and when funds allow.
  

FEB 2009: The funding for the project has now been made available and we are hoping to implement it soon.

Phase 1: Preparing the Ground

Phase 2: Installing the Wheel

	Paul prepares the supports for the tablet.
	The first half of the tablet is maneuvered into place.

Phase 3: Painting and Planting

	The Tablet planted up and shingle path installed.

Refurbishment

Due to weathering and age the herb wheel rotted in the center over the winter - work was undertaken to refurbish the center of the wheel with a stone replacement.

	As of 1st August 2016 the Herb tablet has now rotted around the outside and we plan to refurbish this with brick.

Greenhouse

	As of 2016 the greenhouse has been cleaned up for use. The herb wheel is past its best and we plan to create a brick surround.
